BIOGRAPHY 

 


Born Gregory Kellman on December 23rd, Melekel is an international Reggae and Dancehall superstar that has been writing, producing, recording, performing and engineering for over ten years. With the Gold Record release of the single "Desperado" on the Interscope Digital Distribution platform; he established himself on the global scene and has remained a source of poular music. The grandson of Amy and Victor Barrett, he is the great grandson of George Hutchinson; a Jamaican Mason by trade, who migrated the island of wood and water with his wife Christiana, during the early 20th century. 

Growing up a a child was no bed of roses for the artist. From early on, he demonstrated an inclination towards music and a propensity to deejay from his grandma's apartment balcony. Being a frequent participant in local talent shows, helped develop his unique and recognizable flow pattern, which has been consistent thru the years and has endured the test of time. He was forced to deal with the grieving loss of a loved one at an early age, as a result of his eldest brother's murder.

In spite the odds, he continues to overcome bias and propels Reggae and Dancehall music forward with consciousness and originality. A generational talent, he has toured and performed along side some of the most well known names in the genre; such as Junior "One Blood" Reid, Sizzla, Capleton, Jah Thunder, Andrew and Wadda Blood, Luciano, Jahmali and Turbulence just to name a few.

His inspiration comes from the almighty and his influences include some of the most revolutionary musical minds the world has ever witness; like Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Tiger, King Jammy's, Tracy Chapman, Lovindeer, Slick Rick, Dave Kelly, Anthony Malvo and Shabba Ranks.
